FAQ
Answers to the questions we hear most often about cosmetic and general dentistry at Mercado Dental Studio.
How long do porcelain veneers last?
Properly bonded porcelain veneers typically last 12 to 20 years with normal wear. Longevity depends on the porcelain system used, the precision of the bond, and how well the patient protects them with night-guard therapy if there is any history of grinding.
Will veneers look fake or overly white?
Not in our hands. We hand-shade every case with internal characterization to mimic natural enamel translucency. The result reads as healthy, balanced, and tooth-like rather than uniform Hollywood white. We can adjust the brightness during the wax-up preview phase.
How is a smile makeover different from getting a few veneers?
A smile makeover is a coordinated treatment plan that may combine whitening, alignment, gum contouring, and ceramics. We sequence each phase to preserve enamel and produce a more cohesive result than treating teeth one at a time.
Do I need Invisalign before veneers?
Often, yes. If teeth are crowded or rotated, Invisalign first lets us conserve enamel and produce a more natural final result. We will tell you during the consult whether alignment is the right starting point.
How long does the KöR whitening process take?
Most patients complete KöR whitening over two to four weeks of nightly tray wear with one in-office accelerator session. Tetracycline and severely intrinsic stain cases run on a longer protocol designed by Dr. Mercado.
Are dental implants painful?
The placement appointment is typically described as easier than a tooth extraction. Most patients control discomfort with over-the-counter medication. We use surgical guides for precision, and nitrous oxide is available for anxious patients.
How long does it take to get a dental implant from start to finish?
From extraction to final crown, most cases run three to six months because we allow the bone to integrate with the titanium root. We provide a temporary tooth replacement during the healing phase so you are never without a smile.
Do you sedate patients?
Yes. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is offered for anxious patients. It takes the edge off within minutes, the level is adjustable throughout your visit, and it wears off quickly once your appointment ends. If you feel you may need something beyond nitrous, tell us when you book and we will talk through the right plan for your care.
What insurance do you accept?
We accept most major PPO dental plans and verify your benefits before your first visit, then submit claims on your behalf. Contact us to confirm whether we are in network with your specific plan.
Where is your office and is parking available?
Mercado Dental Studio is located at 1029 56th Street in East Sacramento. Free off-street parking is available adjacent to the building. We are a short drive from Midtown, Land Park, and Carmichael.
