Tooth Extractions

Gentle, carefully planned tooth removal with clear aftercare and comfort at every step.

While we always strive to preserve your natural teeth, sometimes extraction is necessary. Mercado Dental Studio provides compassionate extraction services when a tooth is beyond restoration due to severe decay, periodontal disease, or other conditions that make it non-restorable. Dr. Mercado and his experienced clinical staff ensure the extraction process is as comfortable and straightforward as possible.

Extracting a non-restorable tooth prevents the spread of infection to adjacent teeth and protects your overall oral health. Following extraction, we discuss your tooth replacement options including implants, bridges, and dentures, helping you restore your smile and function.

Dr. Mercado is a member of the American Dental Association and maintains certifications with the International Dental Implant Association, ensuring you receive expert care before, during, and after your extraction.

When Extraction Becomes Necessary

Extraction is considered when a tooth cannot be saved through other dental treatments. Severe tooth decay that extends below the gumline may make restoration impossible. Advanced periodontal (gum) disease can compromise the tooth's supporting structures beyond repair. Traumatic injury may damage a tooth irreparably.

Dr. Mercado thoroughly evaluates whether a tooth can be saved before recommending extraction. He explores all possible treatment options first. Only when preservation is truly impossible does he recommend extraction as the best option for your oral health.

Extracting a non-restorable tooth prevents infection from spreading to adjacent teeth and surrounding bone. This protects your remaining natural teeth and preserves your long-term oral health.

Extraction and Tooth Replacement Options

Following tooth extraction, several replacement options are available. Dental implants offer the best solution, providing a permanent tooth replacement that preserves jawbone and maintains facial structure. Implants are standalone restorations that don't require support from adjacent teeth. They're more expensive than other options but offer superior long-term results.

Dental bridges replace a missing tooth by anchoring crowns to the adjacent teeth. While more affordable than implants, bridges require modification of healthy adjacent teeth. Dentures offer the most affordable option for replacing multiple missing teeth, though they require daily care and adjustment as your jawbone changes.

We discuss all options with you and help you choose the best replacement for your situation, goals, and budget. Many patients find implants worth the investment due to their superior function and longevity. We can initiate implant treatment immediately after extraction or wait if you prefer, depending on your preferences.

Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth, the third molars that typically arrive in the late teens or early twenties, are the most commonly extracted teeth in dentistry. Some come in straight and healthy and never need attention. Many others erupt partially, crowd their neighbors, trap food and bacteria where a brush cannot reach, or press against the second molars in ways that threaten otherwise healthy teeth.

Monitoring is the first job. Wisdom teeth are tracked with X-rays through the teenage years and early twenties, so decisions are made from evidence rather than reflex. Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out, and you will hear that honestly when it is true.

When removal is the right call, straightforward, erupted wisdom teeth can be handled in the studio with the same careful anesthetic technique and gentle pace as any extraction. Complex cases, such as deeply impacted teeth or roots near the nerve canal, are referred to a trusted oral surgeon, because the standard for your care matters more than keeping the procedure in-house. Either way, you leave with a clear plan, honest guidance, and follow-up here at home.
